Geraldine Roberts draws big crowd at Wanstead Park’s historic Temple

IMG_8366The City of London Corporation today welcomed local author, Geraldine Roberts, to The Temple in Wanstead Park to give a talk on her recent book 'The Angel and The Cad'.

The free event ran from 1:00-3:00pm and was organised in conjunction with the Friends of Wanstead Parklands.

Geraldine gave a 20 minute talk on the book, which tells the fascinating story of the life of Catherine Tylney-Long and her ill-fated marriage, which ultimately led to the demise of Wanstead House.

IMG_8359IMG_8360The audience was about twice what the room could comfortably hold - we improvised as best we could, but apologise to those who were unable to find a seat. This was by far the best attended "Tea at The Temple" event ever held. The organisers had hoped to keep it informal, but on future occasions we may need to use Eventbrite or similar to control numbers. On the bright side, it does demonstrate the degree of local interest both in the book and our historic park.
