To celebrate ‘Take a Walk in the Park’ day, the Friends of Wanstead Parklands are leading a gentle two hour stroll around what they describe as “one of East London’s best kept secrets”.
On Monday 30 March, starting at 11:00 at the Warren Road entrance, locals and visitors to the area can enjoy a leisurely two hour stroll along the CHESTNUT TRAIL, a circular way-marked route which follows the main tracks through the Parkland. The trail will take walkers past lakes, woodland and buildings of interest.
The origins of "Take a Walk in the Park Day" aren't clear - it seems to have begun in the United States, but is gradually becoming popular elsewhere. The aim is to encourage people to visit their local parks and enjoy the opportunities they provide for recreation and experiencing nature.
