Walkers hit Wanstead Park’s Chestnut Trail

In the Friends' first walk of the year, a group which started out at about 10 people, most of them first-timers, walked Epping Forest's Chestnut Trail around the core areas of Wanstead Park.

Short break at the refreshment kiosk.

For many years there has been a patch of crocuses - garden escapees - near the Northumberland Avenue entrance. They are spreading steadily and now make a fine late winter display.

The group finished at The Temple, where they were among the first to see the Wren Group's inspiring new photographic exhibition, opened today.

The Wren Group exhibition - 21 photographs of Wanstead wildlife taken by talented amateur photographers.
Display of "mystery objects" to test visitors' knowledge of natural history. One is a genuine mystery, being so far unidentified!
